Demovičová, Barbora ; Čumlivski,, Jan (referee) ; Macháček, Mikuláš (advisor)
Is it important that a graphic designer/art student expresses their opinion on the society and world around them through their work? How can a graphic designer influence social situation, the community in which they live, or other events? What is the role of civic protest and activism? What is the relationship between art and politics? What is the political power of the art? Researching the role of political art, independent publishing, civic actions and comparing the public protests in the past with protests today lead to creating a self-published independent publication reflecting current issues in Slovakia. Focus on Slovak society came after the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová resulting in a wave of public protests and formation of new government of Slovak Republic. This publication is mix of hope for change, idealism, and later scepticism and frustration. This publication is comprised of author’s personal texts and interviews with different persons working in various fields, for example with investigative journalist Marek Vagovič, sociologist and one of the leaders of Velvet Revolution Fedor Gál, publisher and owner of samizdat library Libri Prohibiti Jiří Gruntorád, or Slovak artists Peter Kalmus and Miroslav Cipár.
Noise against the binary - How women, queer, and non-binary people use electronic music, and synthesizers as the emancipation tool
Pátá, Julia ; Hroch, Miloš (advisor) ; Turek, Pavel (referee)
This practical bachelor's thesis maps the connections between gender and the production of electronic experimental music, with an emphasis on the element of synthesizers, in domestic conditions. The thesis documents whether and how electronic experimental music and synthesizers can provide a more inclusive and accessible musical infrastructure in the Czech Republic. It also builds on an area that has been neglected by historical/academic scholarship and the media for several decades, and which has received more attention in recent years, especially in the context of the amplification of voices from gendered communities. This is evidenced, for example, in the music documentary Sisters with Transistors (2020) by filmmaker Lisa Rovner, which documents the pioneers of experimental electronic music, whose contributions largely underpin what we now perceive as electronic music. The practical output of the work is a series of seven interviews with figures from the Prague and Brno electronic scene who incorporate synthesizers in their work, divided into several categories according to the role they play within the electronic scene. The interviews are in the form of a zine and the individual texts are accompanied by analogue photographs. They project different approaches to the intersection of gender and...
Microcosms: the phenomenon of Zine and its application in art education
Nováková, Barbora ; Raudenský, Martin (advisor) ; Sedlák, Michal (referee)
The bachelor's thesis will try to clarify the phenomenon of zine and find its application in art education. Zines are presented here as means of communication and creativity. They are non- commercial, low-cost publications that are usually produced within an interest group or subculture. The theoretical part will deal with the emergence of the zine medium, its various characteristics and meanings, and will focus on contemporary approaches to it. It will examine the possible benefits of the medium of zine in pedagogy and make suggestions on how to integrate zine into teaching, specifically in art education. The framework curricula and teachers' experience will be taken into account. In the practical part, the process of creating a collective zine will be presented, when the young generation of creators will be approached in order to create a coherent series of illustrations and designs. The zine will be produced in both digital and print formats. KEY WORDS zine, magazine, media, art education, media education, independent publishing, non-commercial publishing, design
The content analysis of Czech feminist zines
Kopecká, Mahulena ; Krobová, Tereza (advisor) ; Hroch, Miloš (referee)
Cílem práce bylo prostřednictvím kvalitativní obsahové analýzy najít témata, skrze která vybrané české feministické ziny (tedy neprofesionální nezávislé publikace, které jejich tvůrci produkují a distribuují sami) prezentují myšlenky feminismu a problematiku ženské emancipace, a následně porovnat, jak ziny jednotlivá témata pojímají. Šlo vždy o dvě vybraná čísla zinů Wicca, Esbat, Bloody Mary a Přímá cesta, vycházejících z českého anarchistického hnutí.

Social network Common sing: subcultures and media
Bártová, Dominika ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Šoltys, Otakar (referee)
In the course of 20th century, various subcultures became important part of our society. They were formed by mutual belief and shared interest in values often dissonant to those of majority. This paper describes larp community, fellowship that creates and organizes theatre- like role playing sessions. Live action role playing is about establishing new fictional worlds and retrieting legendary tales with main focus on joy experienced during the game. A radio documentary "Fenomen larp" (i.e. Phenomenon LARP) complementing this paper provides detailed insight. Main goal of the work is to put together the overview of the means of communication within larp community with accent on zines, webzines and Facebook. It also describes the way mainstream media covers the topic and what is the public opinion towards larp together with content analysis of texts published in "Pevnost" (i.e. Citadel) magazine. In appendix there are photographs from documentary shooting, interview with Helena Jiskrova (creator of Common sign social network) and overview of media outputs on larp in Czech Republic during 2014.
